The Atacama Desert in Chile is one of the most arid deserts of the planet. It extents in the north of Chile and the cost line of Peru. It is located on the same latitud as the Kalahari and Australia deserts. The arid condition encreases due to the barrier effect of the Andes Mountain Range that blocks the humidity from the Atlantic ocean. Atacama Desert has registered periods of up to 40 years without rains in its central sector between the cities of Antofagasta, Calama, Iquique and Arica in Chile.
